Approaches to Music
“Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity”. (National Curriculum 2014)
At Crofton Junior School, we believe that music should be an enjoyable learning experience. Our music curriculum aims to provide pupils with a high-quality music education which engages and inspires children to develop a love of music and develop their talents as musicians. This, in turn, helps to increase pupils’ self- confidence, emotional well-being, creativity and sense of achievement. Throughout school, children have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of musical activities including listening, appraising, singing, performing, improvising and composing across a range of musical genres. Lessons are lively and interactive and aim to foster a passion for music in children of all abilities. We believe that music enriches the lives of people and therefore we aim to involve children in music-making activities. We have a school choir which rehearses regularly and enables children to enjoy both singing and performing together. Throughout the school year, we provide opportunities for pupils to showcase their musical talents by performing at various events. These recognise pupils’ achievements, celebrate their success and allow them to share their enjoyment with the school community.
