Early Reading and Phonics
At Crofton Junior School, we view reading as an entitlement for all. Simply put, it is the key to academic success. We have ensured reading is at the heart of our curriculum so that pupils can see that reading is a transferrable skill which will benefit them in all areas of the curriculum. At CJS, pupils read within and outside of reading lessons through: reading for practice, reading for meaning and reading for pleasure (please refer to the Reading Policy and Quick Guides at the top of the page for further information).
Little Wandle
At Crofton Junior School, if a pupil requires further support with segmenting and blending the sounds in words to read fluently then they will be involved in a short term phonics intervention called Little Wandle Rapid Catch-up or Little Wandle SEND. If your child is involved in these interventions, then you will have been informed. Further support and information for parents can be found on the Little Wandle website. |
